Adventure Touring, Peddle it, Paddle it, Ride it...Drive it

Its doesn't matter if the adventure you are seeking is only a matter of hours in duration, or a matter of weeks. What matters most is you pack carefully and take the tools that will ensure a safe arrival back home...so in short you need to think about the 6 P's...the What???

The 6 P's...Prior, Planning, Prevents a Pitifully, Poor, Performance...

What does this mean while packing for the adventure...Plan for the worst, expect the best...Too many times while at sea in my former life, I heard people say "That should...." or "That Won't..." . These are terms no crew member on a vessel really wants to hear, they are precursors to what really happens...

How many stories have been told and the proverbial Mr. Murphy walks onto the stage...What can go wrong will go wrong at the worst possible moment...Hence the need for the 6 P's..

Well, we everyday folks need our own version of a "get outta jail free card"...I call it the Multi-Tool. I use it like Tiger Woods uses a little black book...For Everything. I always have one on my belt, in the glove box of the car, on each motorcycle and in my backpack...Why? Because its the only tool that I know when Mr. Murphy shows up, gives me a fighting chance. The Multi-Tool helps so I don't get the "nod" from the wife of "I told you so..."

Any Multi-Tool will do, to each his own flavor. I prefer the Gerber Multi-Plier for the Belt, for ease of use and one hand opening. In the Backpack I stash a Leatherman...With Wine Opener. In the Car I always have the SOG, Its like having base-camp in your car...and when I'm peddling I'll take a Columbia River Tool, cause of the low volume, slim design...

Too each their own, but think about it...even if you only carry just one, you can't be blamed for not being prepared...At least you have a leg to stand on when she gives you the "nod"...

Each tool is its own little monster, so choose carefully and when in doubt, get 2...or 3 and stash them...but at least you will have started considered the 6 P's. Its the first step to getting home from your next adventure.
